We are starting a series of articles and videos for begginers that will explain how to use projectors, laptops, speakers and tablets. This is the first video that shows how to connect a projector to a laptop computer.
Please let us know if there is any video you would like us to create about anything related to projectors, laptops and sound equipment.

We have added a new article in our Projector Hire Guide. This time we are describing our simple hire process.

When a projector is needed many businesses wonder whether they should hire or buy a new one. We are going to study it attending to the lifespan of the device.
Projectors, as any other electronic device, have a limited lifespan. New technologies appear constantly making our equipment get obsolete really fast. You may think this does not apply to a projector since they will still work no matter what new technologies appear. This is true but, for example, a new connector may appear and the ones our projector has may no longer be supported. For example, some new computers do not include the VGA (RGB) connector.
But in the case of a projector what limits it the most is the lamp. Projector lamps have a limited life (around 2000 hours depending on the lamp quality, the power of the lamp and how we treat it). These lamps are very fragile and expensinve. It is not uncommon for us to receive phone calls from people whose projector has been on a shelf for months and when they try to power it on it does not work any more.
So, if we are going to use the projector not very ofter if will probably be cheaper to hire one rather than buying it. We will not have to worry about safely storing it or about its maintenance. If we hire it we will always have a projector that suits our needs perfectly.
If you need to rent a projector we can help you, no matter if you are an individual or a business. We serve almost anywhere the UK (England, Wales and parts of Scotland).

A projector has quite a few important features that we have to consider when buying a new one. Lumens, contrast, through ratio, resolution, the inputs, etc. We will try to help you understand what each concept means, starting by the contrast.
What is the contrast in a projector?
As defined in the wikipedia:
The contrast ratio is a property of a display system, defined as the ratio of the luminance of the brightest color (white) to that of the darkest color (black) that the system is capable of producing.
But what does this mean? This means that the higher the contrast the brighter the white colors (and the darker the black colors). This results in a better image quality so ideally we would prefer a high contrast value in a projector.
Can I use the contrast value as the main factor to choose a projector?
Since there is no stardard way to measure the contrast in a projector you should not compare contrast ratio between different manufacturers. Each one will use his own method for measuring a contrast ratio.
There are also other parameters that affect our perception of the contrast ratio (ambient light, the screen or wall in which the image is projected, reflection of the walls, etc). Thus we can conclude that having a high contrast ratio in a projector is always good but it should not the be the main factor to choose between two projectors.
